The Sexy Speed Rally is scheduled to take place on 26th – 27th November in Jinja with the Longest entry list of 35 confirmed crews with the Government approval , Federation, Mosac and the people of Jinja.
The International University of East Africa (IUEA) sponsored driver on Thursday, through his team’s public relations office, penned down his reasons of pulling out of the Motorsport Africa Club(Mosac) organised event due to its naming ‘sexy speed’. The letter that went viral on social media platforms, was specifically addressed to Dipu Ruparelia, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda of uganda(FMU) president, copied to different respective offices as copy attached.
Ostensibly, Hassan Alwi fears competition for championship from other senior drivers who have already confirmed their participation in the sexy speed rally which may also outsmart his last year’s poorly organised jinja rally with disorganisation in the track to poor safety measures among others.
This comes at time when organisers of the Sexy Speed Rally have emphasised on safety and security going into the final round of the National Rally Championship in Jinja, Considering what happened in the previous poorly organised IUEA Jinja rally 2020 which had safety problems leading to the suspension of some events.
During the launch of the rally, Clerk of Course Shafic Matovu said that the name (Sexy Speed Rally) was adopted just to attract the Youths as they target massive vaccination during the event.
He added: “We have had a few incidents in motorsport but they are inevitable. In this particular event of the sexy rally, the name is to attract the youth and hence get vaccinated. By doing that, we would like to reduce on the spread of Covid19.
“What we have improved on in the current status of safety is that we have brought in two direction arrows where the rally cars are going to pass so that drivers are not going off the road.
“We have also sensitized the locals and employed some of the defence teams to help in safety of the event. We see the conditions that our country is going through, we are going to have very strict security measures especially at the beginning of the rally and at the service park that is Mwiri Primary School and Source of the Nile respectively.”
