The Police in Busoga North has arrested a security guard for shooting and injuring two people in Kamuli District.

The victims who are currently nursing injuries at Kamuli general hospital include 25-year-old Joel Waiswa and Jackson Muzimba aged 30 years.   They were allegedly shot on Wednesday at Kamuli Sugar Factory by Jimmy Ebong, a security guard attached to Security Systems Limited

Muzimba says that he had a misunderstanding with Ebong who had instructed him to ferry manure out of the factory premises, a request he declined to.

“We normally carry along manure after offloading cane however, the client I received yesterday told me that, he was preparing his land for food crops and therefore, didn’t require any form of factory manure, however, despite my explanations, Ebong refused to listen to me,” he says.

Muzimba who sustained injuries in the left hand adds that Ebong decided to shoot towards his truck after noticing that, he tried to force his way out of the factory premises.

Waiswa says that he had parked his vehicle about five meters away from Muzimba’s truck when stray bullets from Ebong’s gun injured his right leg.

Officials at the sugar factory have since declined to comment about the incident stressing that, the matter is being handled by police authorities.

The Busoga North Regional Police Commander, Bernard Akankwasa says that Ebong is being detained at Kamuli central police station.
