Suspected Thief Shot Dead in Masindi

The officer in charge-OC of Buliima Police post in Buliima town Council Masindi district has shot a suspected thief dead.

Peter Lukimoi shot the suspected thief on Monday morning at 1:30a.m as he responded to an alarm by area residents of Nyabisojo-Kimigi cell in Kisalizi ward, Buliima town council in Masindi district after thugs raided the area.

It is reported that in the wee hours of Monday morning, six suspected thugs raided the area and started terrorizing the village while robbing animals including goats.

Area residents immediately alerted Buliima police who rushed to bring the situation under control.

However, on their way, police being commanded by Lukimoi intercepted six thugs who were armed with Pangas and sticks.

Upon seeing police, the suspected thieves charged at the police officers.

In self defense Lukimoi discharged a bullet that hit one of the charging suspected thieves on the head killing him on spot as his accomplices fled to unknown destinations.

Police managed to recover three goats the thugs had stolen from the area residents.

John Kyaligonza, a resident told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that the thugs raided the area and started terrorizing area residents indiscriminately adding that at one point, they beat up the locals who tried to resist their action. He applauded police for their quick response.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying the  body of the yet to be identified thug was picked up by police and later taken to Masindi hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

According to Hakiza, the hunt for the other five suspects who fled is ongoing.

On Sunday night, a security guard attached to Premier Security group shot dead a suspected thief in Hoima.  But the brave security guard was later arrested by police.

The arrested security guard has only been identified as Awori, who had been deployed to guard a cattle farm owned by one Manzi Tumubwine in Kibaali village, Buraru sub-county in Hoima district.

It is alleged that on Sunday night at around 11:30p.m, six suspected thugs armed with pangas, raided the farm and attacked Awori with an intention of disarming her and stealing the cattle from the farm.

They allegedly grabbed her but in self-defence, she managed discharged a bullet that hit one of the thugs, thus saving her life and the employer’s property.

The yet to be identified thug died on spot, while his accomplices fled the scene.

The body of the deceased was later picked up by security personnel and taken to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem.
