Lwengo police are holding six suspects accused of lynching a man for cautioning them against partying during curfew time. The suspects ganged up against Elias Kiweewa, a resident of the Central zone in Kyazanga town Council when he approached on Sunday night while partying with loud music.
The more than 20 revellers first insulted Kiweewa before they clobbered him with clubs. Eyewitnesses say that the group scattered immediately after realizing that Kiweewa had breathed his last. Police were called to the scene to retrieve the body, which they later hand over to the deceased’s family after postmortem.
Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Region Police Spokesperson, has confirmed the arrests, saying that police picked up the suspects on separate days.
He says that they have charged the suspects with murder, adding that they will appear in court when their file is ready. Nsubuga has also warned residents to be vigilant about anonymous letters being circulated by unidentified people in Greater Masaka asking them to send money or else risk being killed.
