Police Shoot Dead Prime Murder Suspect

Police have shot dead the prime suspect in the murder of one of the patrons at New California T & J bar Oasis Pub, a popular hangout for commercial sex workers in Kigongi Central division in Kabale Municipality early this month.
The suspect, only identified as Kakofira was gunned down around 09:00 PM on Wednesday night from his hideout in an Eucalyptus tree forest in Kiruruma wetland of Rushaki, Southern Division in Kabale Municipality.
Kakofira together with two others only identified as Babu and Jasper allegedly stabbed Moses Akampurira, a resident of Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district on August 1st, 2021 in a fight over a woman at the pub. It is alleged that Akampurira tried to stop the trio from snatching the woman leading to a scuffle, in which Kakofira stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.
He was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral hospital where he breathed his last due to excessive bleeding. Police later arrested Akankwasa who implicated Kakofira for stabbing the deceased. On Wednesday evening, police asked Akankwasa to call Kakofira and Babu to meet him in Rushaki eucalyptus forest for a deal.
The suspects showed up as agreed and turned violent upon seeing police officers and pulled out machetes to attack them. The officers shot in the air to scare the duo in vain as they charged towards them prompting one of the officers to shoot Kakofira in the stomach.
He tried to flee but collapsed and died due to excessive bleeding. Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, says that the officers shot Kakofira in self-defence.
This is not the first stabbing incident at California T & J bar Oasis Pub. In June 2018, Joshua Tusingwire, a driver and resident of Muhamya village in Nyarwanya parish in Rubaare Sub in Ntungamo district also stabbed to death Stephen Kankiriho, a soldier attached to the Special Forces Command-SFC and part of the security detail of the first lady Janet Kataha Museveni while fighting for a woman.
