Two UPDF soldiers have been arrested and detained at Jinja Road Police Station over what sources referred to as “involvement in criminality.”

The arrest took place on Tuesday night from Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb as the soldiers held a meeting with their boss. The boss is at a rank of a Captain.

This website has established that the two soldiers are bodyguards of this Captain who escaped. However, we are yet to ascertain which unit of the army they belong to.

“We are looking for him, we understand these are his guards. Him and his guards have been involving themselves in criminality,” said a security official who took part in the arrest.

He requested not to be named.

The arrest of these soldiers comes at a time security is high on alert over terrorism in the country following an explosion of two bombs that killed two people and injured many that are currently admitted in Hospital.

Asked if the soldiers are linked to the bomb explosion, the security official couldn’t confirm or deny.

No police official at Jinja Road Police Station was willing comment on this matter, maintaining that its classified.

The UPDF spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso couldn’t be reached for a comment.

A separate military source told this website that the arrested soldiers had been staging illegal roadblocks and extorting money from members of the public. However, we couldn’t verify that information.

But what this website confirmed by the time of filing this report is that these soldiers had been held at Jinja Road and plans were underway to transfer them to Makindye Military barracks.

The arrest comes amid heightened hunt for terrorist cells in Kampala suburbs following the bomb attacks.

This is a developing story…
