Elderly Man Kills Attacker, Injures Another

An elderly man in Budaka district is nursing injuries after fighting off an attack by two men who raided his home on Monday evening.

Eighty-four-year-old Jaliwo Mulongo, a resident of Nangada Village in Kabuna Sub-County managed to kill one of the attackers and injured another when they stormed his home around 8:30 pm to steal Shillings 200,000 he received under the Social Assistance Grants Empowerment [SAGE] program.

The deceased has been identified as Keffa Kalajja, 26. Joseph Gadimba, Nangada Village publicity secretary, says that suspected thieves hacked Mulongo with a machete but he managed to fight back killing Kalajja.

Mulongo sustained injuries on the back and neck and is currently admitted at Budaka Health Centre IV.  Francis Mboizi, the Nangada village LC I chairperson has condemned the attack accusing youths in the area of failing to engage in productive work.

The Kabuna Sub-county LC3 chairperson, David Pera, says that cases of theft are taking an unprecedented toll in his area that has been peaceful. He has called upon the community to embrace neighbourhood watch to scale down criminality in the area.

The deceased’s body is currently lying at Budaka Health Center mortuary pending postmortem before it could be handed over to the family for burial.
