Ibanda Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a security guard attached to Millennium Security Firm limited and theft of his firearm. The deceased has been identified as Levi Kasaande Asinguza, 24 and the missing firearm is registration number SAR UGPOL 4182 1051364.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, says that Kasande disappeared from duty at Bell Depot Ibanda Branch along Kashuku Road in Kyabugaija Upper Cell Bufunda Ward, Bufunda Division on Monday and was found dead in a banana plantation near the road.
He says that the deceased’s supervisor, Nasacio Ndyabahika reported Asinguza’s disappearance from night duty to police before his body was recovered from the plantation on Tuesday afternoon. Kasasira says upon inspection of the scene, Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations department recovered a blood-stained hammer and a bullet.
According to Kasasira, the deceased colleague who was also on duty claims that Kasande varnished mysteriously and his phones also went off prompting him to notify their supervisor. Mathias Muhumuza, the LC 1 Chairperson of Kyabugaija Upper Cell, says he got a call from one of the residents informed him about the body in the garden.
He suspects that the security guard could have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the banana plantation because there are traces of tires and feet heading towards the garden.
Edwin Asasira, the Depot Manager, says he was also notified by the LC I chairperson about the incident.
